Reminiscences of the great four year war ... commencing on the 12th day of April 1861 and ending on the 1st day of July 1865, n.d.

Photocopy of the typed undated transcript of Hubard's "Reminiscences of the Great Four Year War between the Federal Government and the Southern States of the American Union commencing on the 12th day of April 1861 and ending on the 1st day of July 1865." The transcript provides a detailed account of his cavalry's movements in Virginia, as well as a description of the Civil War in general. He discusses foraging missions, living conditions, how regimental leaders are chosen, and lists officers in the 3rd Virginia Cavalry. Battles described in detail and in which his regiment participated include Chancellorsville (1863), Winchester (1864), and Five Forks (1865), where he was wounded. Officers primarily described include Robert E. Lee, Gustave T. Beauregard, and Jeb Stuart.

James Ewell Brown (Jeb) Stuart, soldier, was born 6 February 1833, on "Laurel Hill" plantation, Patrick County, Virginia. He died 12 May 1864 and is buried in Richmond, Virginia.
